Breast-Feeding Health Benefits for Mom and Baby

Parents of newborn babies face plenty of decisions in raising a healthy child. One of the main and most important is the decision to provide the best nutrition guide for their child.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months to provide optimal nutrition protection and breastfeeding with complementary foods from six months to at least twelve months of age.

Besides providing the best nutrition, breastfeeding provides an emotional connection between the baby and the mother and also decreases your baby's risk of certain infections

  • ear infections,
  • respiratory illnesses,
  • sudden infant death syndrome,
  • Obesity,
  • Hypertension.

Breastfeeding also gives moms benefits including aiding weight loss after delivery and reducing the risk of breast cancers.

During breastfeeding, it is not possible for every mother and baby, but the benefits make it worth discussing with your doctor and a registered dietitian nutritionist.
